18 May ADVANCED POLYOLEFIN OUTDOOR FABRICS
ADVANPOLITEX is a CDTI Eureka project that is still running. It will be developed from September 2015 to February 2018, entitled “Advanced polyolefin outdoor fabrics”. It is cofinanced by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through the Multiregional Intelligent Growth Operational Program. Through this cooperation project, PERTEX, together with the Turkish company ULUSOY and the Spanish company PIEL, will develop a range of outdoor fabrics based on polyolefin micro fibres for use in outdoor fabrics. The project aims to achieve market requirements and provide new design capabilities, because current fabrics have little stability in their technical characteristics. From a technical point of view, in this project PERTEX in this project will develop finishes formulations related to the new fabric (polyolefins microfibers) so that the result is of high quality and durable, studying the compatibilities between the different components and defining an effective and efficient application system. Regarding this last aspect, all parameters of the finishing application processes must be controlled in order to make effective the industrial process. The production of the new fabric based on polyolefin microfibre yarns will be mainly focused on their outdoor use, mainly in furniture upholstery: chairs, armchairs, sofas, etc. Being fabrics of synthetic origin, it is expected at the end of the development of prototypes, they have great resistance against atmospheric agents as well as biological (low biodegradability) allowing a long durability. Furthermore, thanks to specific additives, it will be possible to obtain resistance to the sun (UV radiation). The new fabric to be developed in the project will be more competitive and high quality, differing greatly from the quality of current polypropylene fabrics and it will approach the acrylic fabrics, but at a lower cost, and therefore this will be an advantage in the market.
